Guillermo del Toro Takes On Disney

This weekend was big for Guillermo del Toro, once-figurehead of The Hobbit now gone rogue with his own projects. The writer/director made a showing at San Diego Comic-Con for his upcoming film, Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark, which is a remake of a 1973 television feature. But del Toro surprised everyone on Thursday by showing up at—of all things—a Disney panel....

I’d like to say I’ve been a Manchester City fan since they played the Atlanta Chiefs back in 1968. But I wasn’t even born then. Truth is, I’ve been a Manchester City fan for exactly one year, when I went to the Manchester International Festival and just, well, sort of decided to pull for them. I’d assumed I was going to run into a bunch of Manchester United fans, but my hosts explained that everyone in the city was a City fan. I said, offhandedly, that I was now a City fan too….

If you like Scottish instrumental rock and Brooklyn, go to one of 45 websites that will be hosting digital screenings of Mogwai’s new film, Burning, at 3 p.m. EST (12 p.m. PST, 8 p.m. GMT) today. The film will feature footage from three of the band’s live performances at the Music Hall of Williamsburg in Brooklyn. According to Crawdaddy, the sold out shows took place from April 27-29 last year....

Despite rumors that the webcast of Arcade Fire’s upcoming Madison Square Garden show will be directed by Spike Jonze, Spinner reports that the YouTube event will be spearheaded by Terry Gilliam.
